As you know, this evening brings a historic solar eclipse. From Cork, the Moon will cover approximately 96.4% of the Sun at maximum eclipse, with the peak occurring at around 19:13. To celebrate this rare celestial event, we are operating special boat trips to the iconic Ballycotton Lighthouse, offering visitors a truly unforgettable opportunity to experience the eclipse from the sea. Whether you're hoping to capture the moment on camera or simply enjoy this extraordinary natural spectacle, there is no better place to witness it than against the dramatic backdrop of Ireland's rugged coastline.

The lighthouse's position on the low west-northwest horizon provides a striking and unobstructed foreground, making it an exceptional location for both eclipse enthusiasts and photographers seeking to frame this remarkable celestial event.

The partial eclipse begins at approximately 16:15 and reaches its maximum at 19:13. Our return schedule ensures that guests remain on the island throughout the eclipse, including its peak. The island's helipad provides a spectacular 360-degree viewing platform with uninterrupted views of the sky and surrounding seascape. Photographers will have ample space to set up tripods and capture the changing light, while everyone on board can enjoy a unique vantage point from which to experience this rare celestial event before returning to the mainland.

The weather can vary, so don’t forget to bring water, and a rain jacket if rain is expected. Suitable footwear is required, as some areas are uneven and include a steep climb up a path rich in history.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled tour at the Ballycotton Sea Adventure kiosk located at the pier. Meet your guide at the kiosk, where your ticket will be checked. Your booking is not valid without a confirmation email. If you have booked but do not receive a confirmation email, please contact us directly as soon as possible.

A full safety briefing will be provided before boarding the passenger boat. Animals are not permitted on the tour or on the island. Lifejackets are provided and must be worn at all times in accordance with company policy.

Don't forget to bring your camera. The combination of the historic Ballycotton Lighthouse, the surrounding seascape, and this rare celestial event promises a truly unforgettable experience. Please remember that it is never safe to look directly at the Sun without appropriate certified solar viewing protection, except during a total solar eclipse—which this event is not.

We appreciate your cooperation and flexibility in helping us provide a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

If you arrive late, your booking is non-refundable and non-transferable. We strongly recommend allowing plenty of time to travel to Ballycotton and find parking. As this is a special eclipse event, the village is expected to be particularly busy, and parking may be limited. Because these sailings are scheduled around the timing of the eclipse, we will be unable to delay departures or transfer guests to another sailing. If you miss your departure, you will unfortunately miss the eclipse tour.

Please note that sea and weather conditions can change quickly. For your safety, Ballycotton Lighthouse Tours may occasionally be cancelled at short notice even on sunny days if strong or easterly winds make it unsafe to dock on the island. We understand this can be disappointing, but your safety is always our top priority. If your tour is cancelled due to weather, you’ll be notified by email and offered: A voucher to reschedule for another day, or A full refund of your booking. To avoid any surprises, we recommend checking your email (including your spam/junk folder) before setting out for your tour. We’ll do our best to keep you informed and help you rebook if needed.
